What do you say,
When you're afraid
Of anything of substance?

And then you hate
Yourself for this fear
Because doesn't

"I love you" mean
"We can talk about
The hard stuff?"

Or maybe it's
"I'll protect you
From the hard stuff."

But either way,
You're too afraid
To try and win.

  1. Stab me now
    To let the wound heal
    For love is
    "We must talk about
    the hard stuff"
Festering wounds lead only to sorrow,
    Stealing the heart away.

    If the knife is sharp,
    Sharp as to kill
    Then plunge it forth
For regret later shall you fill.
    Surprise may you find,
The dullest knife is quite new.

Protect me not from your mind,
    Trust me to be true.
    Today may bring sorrow,
    Tomorrow joy shall you fill.

    Silence brings but sorrow,
    Never cry alone.
I am here to heal you,
    I too am alone.

We must talk about the hard stuff
    And never cry alone
    For trust is never lacking,
    Love remains true

    1. How right,
      How wise you are.
      That the miles between us
      Might shrink and die
So that I might see your face
      As I confide in you
      And you in me
